Short Stories:
New Series: Person to Person
This series will consist of short short stories, each titled with a different name and focusing on the character who bears that name. The short stories will often take place in “non-places,” or during ordinary moments which seem unimportant when viewed from afar. Through each piece, I hope to offer a glimpse of a human face- of a human person- in a way that reminds us we are not alien to one another, but possess equal dignity and uniqueness when we stand “person to person” and truly look at the “other.” As I write these short stories, I will also be exploring what it means to be human, and focusing as well as on the truth within this powerful quotation: “Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about” (-Wendy Mass).
Buried Voices: Stories of Silence and Sound
Each piece in this collection is adapted from a different Shakespeare play, and focuses on a character who is often overlooked and perhaps misunderstood. These stories aim to portray the characters in a different light and offer insight into their motivations, desires and insecurities. They centre on themes of silence and sound, looking at how each character finds, loses, or fails to find their voice.
Juliet (Romeo and Juliet)
Lady Macbeth (Macbeth)
Ophelia (Hamlet)
Viola (Twelfth Night)
Jessica (The Merchant of Venice)
Update: I am writing more short stories for the Buried Voices series, adapted from plays such as The Taming of the Shrew, The Tempest, King Lear and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Once completed, I will be releasing the full collection as an e-book!
