Perfection

I’ve been sitting here for the past 15 minutes trying to figure out how to start my blog. How do you start a blog? I mean, I guess it’s different for everyone, but what should I do? Should I introduce myself first, or get into what I want to talk about right away? And what do I want to talk about anyways? So many questions… And like usual, I’m not sure about the answers. But if there’s one thing I’m learning, it’s that maybe, sometimes, there is no right answer. Maybe the right answer for me would be completely wrong for someone else.

I guess I might as well introduce myself, now that I’ve bridged that always difficult opening paragraph. My name is Jenny and I am a high school student who loves to write, which is pretty much why I decided to start my own blog. I have a lot to say and written words always seem to express my thoughts best. Who knows: maybe no one will even read this blog but me. If that happens, I guess you could say that I’m wasting my time here talking to myself, which may seem a little weird. But by now, I should really learn to embrace my weirdness instead of fighting it!

Because aren’t we all a little weird ourselves? Some way, somehow? Everyone has their own little issues… some people are just better at covering them up than others. But is it really a good thing when we learn how to hide these idiosyncrasies behind a mask? And when we feign perfection to the outside world, is that really who we become? (By the way, I apologize for the excess questions. What can I say? I guess I’m just an inquisitive kind of person).

Anyways, my point is (I also apologize in advance for all of the rambling I’m bound to do)… nobody’s perfect! It doesn’t matter how flawless a person may seem: perfection is just not possible! Dictionary.com just told me that the definition of perfection is “the state or quality of being or becoming perfect,” which, annoyingly enough, tells me nothing, so I looked up the definition of ‘perfect’ too. It says that perfect means “conforming absolutely to the description or definition of an ideal type.” Maybe it’s time that someone rewrote this dictionary and replaced that long-winded definition with one word: Jesus.

Jesus is perfect. We’re not. And though we try to hide our flaws sometimes, that doesn’t mean they’ll go away. It’s time we embraced the parts of us that are less than perfect, because they’re inevitable. Instead, why don’t we thank God for the good things about ourselves, because every single person is special in their own way. Our worth is another thing that will never change, no matter how many times we may put ourselves down. So please, if you’ve actually read down to the end of this post, never for a second believe that being less than perfect makes you less than special. You are unique, you are loved, and you are good enough… simply because you are you.
