The Christmas Season!
Deck the halls with boughs of holly, Fa la la la la la la la la!!!
In other words, the Christmas season has begun, and as the rest of the song goes, “tis the season to be jolly!” When white, fluffy snow blankets the ground and bright, cozy lights shine from every corner, I find the whole world seems happier, or “jollier,” I guess you could say. Sure, it’s still November, and maybe there is more slush than snow, but to me, that feeling of Christmas is already here! It is the first week of Advent, so that also got me thinking about Christmas and what it really means…
There are so many things I love about Christmas. Of course there’s the music (which is extremely contagious) and all of the delicious Christmas baking. Then there’s the snow and the break off from school and the spending time with family, and let’s not forget the PRESENTS! To me, as much as I try not to focus on them, presents are a pretty big part of Christmas. Not just getting gifts, but giving too. When you put thought into choosing a special gift for someone special, seeing that someone’s eyes light up upon receiving it, is almost as good as getting the present yourself.
But no matter how amazing they may be (and believe me, I’ve received some pretty amazing presents in my time), all that material stuff is NOT what Christmas is about. What I’m getting at is that God gave us the ultimate gift that first Christmas, and that’s what started this holiday in the first place. When God gave us Jesus, it was a gift of love. Just love.
So this Christmas season, if you’re caught up in the hustle and bustle of this special time of year, don’t worry so much about buying the perfect gift or getting exactly what you want. Instead, give, receive and enjoy, but make sure you do it with love. Because love is what Christmas is really all about.
…And now it’s time for me to sign off and go blast some Christmas music!!! Until next time, merry Christmas season!!!
