Dying Things

You feel discouraged and despaired
To believe in the things that are dying.
But if you have mind to create
And belief that still flows,
Then they are not dead yet.

For there is life enough in you
To revive the cold, stiff lips
Illuminating eyes that have forgotten
The beauty that cries
From the tip of your pen.

Yet courage is required to forge
Ahead without assurance
That another will follow.
The intrinsically good
Transcends “possible” bounds
And fear is eclipsed when
Passion’s permitted to meet
Its highest calling.

And in this ascension to truth
There is neither death nor falling,
But unimagined heights
Which when reached,
Are full of life
And undiminished lights.
